Chargers agree to terms with Raymond Walls
Friday, Apr 21, 2006
The Chargers have agreed to terms with free agent cornerback Raymond Walls on a one-year contract. A veteran of five NFL seasons, Walls spent the 2005 campaign with the Arizona Cardinals.
“We’ve added another veteran with NFL experience to enhance the competition in our secondary,” said Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith. “Raymond has been in the league for five seasons. He brings value on special teams as well. He can possibly help us in a couple different areas.”
Walls was originally drafted by Indianapolis in the fifth-round (152nd overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft. He spent one season with the Colts before signing with the Cleveland Browns. The Kentwood, Louisiana native joined the Baltimore Ravens in 2003, where he saw action in 10 games and finished fourth on the team with 12 special teams tackles. Walls appeared in all 16 games for the Ravens in 2004 before signing with the Cardinals prior to last season. He totaled 11 tackles in seven games as a reserve defensive back on Denny Green’s squad.
As a collegian, Walls started 27 of 44 games at Southern Mississippi. After playing wide receiver during his first two seasons in Hattiesburg, Walls switched to defensive back following his sophomore campaign. He was named first-team All-Conference USA as a senior in 2000.
Walls was born July 24, 1979. He and his wife, Vicki, have two sons, Taylen and Jordan.
