Name: Wes Sims G/T
#60The Chargers selected Sims, 6-4, 317, with the 177th overall choice in the 2005 NFL Draft. Sims, a three-year starter for the Sooners, was an All-Big 12 first team pick by the NFL Draft Report in 2004. Sims was born April 8, 1981 in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He was a consensus All-America at Weatherford High School.
While Wes was overshadowed by heralded teammates Jammal Brown and Vince
Carter throughout his career, the coaching staff can tell you that he was
a very important part of the team’s success in recent years. Even though
Wes has experience at both tackle positions, many pro teams are targeting
him for a move to guard, due to his very impressive strength and trap blocking
ability. Sims was regarded as one of the top offensive linemen in the country at
Weatherford (Okla.) High School, where he was a consensus All-American while
grading 90% for blocking consistency as a senior. He also excelled in track,
setting school records in the shot put (62’0") and discus (185’0"). He redshirted in 2000 at Oklahoma, but took over left tackle duties in
2001, lining up there for the first five games. He then shifted to the right
side for the Kansas and Baylor clashes. He started all games at left tackle
the next three years, posting 108 knockdowns in 2002, 109 more in ’03 and
a career-high 118 as a senior in 2004. Text courtesy of the San Diego Chargers
