By David Neville, Chargers.com

07.20.03 - The Chargers have signed sixth-round draft pick Hanik Milligan, a safety from the University of Houston, to a four-year contract. Milligan began his college career at Iowa Central College before transferring to Houston in 2000 where he teamed with older brother, Hamin. Today, Hamin is a defensive specialist for the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. The most exciting moment for Milligan in his football career was the Cougars’ 2002 season opener against Rice when the squad ended a 15-game losing streak. Milligan turned in a big effort against the Owls with 15 tackles. Milligan was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where his father, a retired fireman, still lives. In his free time, Milligan enjoys listening to music, reading the Bible, playing basketball and building on his sports memorabilia collection.

The Chargers used the 188th overall selection in this year's draft on Milligan, who racked up 408 tackles and seven interceptions during his career for the Cougars. He left school as the third all-time leading tackler. He also ranked fifth in the university's annals for solo tackles and 10th in passes defensed.

Milligan was born on Nov. 3, 1979 in U.S. Virgin Islands. He was an all-county choice and defensive most valuable player at Coconut Creek High School in Coconut Creek, Florida.
